Kankū Sho (Shōtōkan)

About This Kata

Name Kanku Sho [観空小]
Translation View the Sky – Lesser
Style Shotokan
History Kankū Sho shares the same Kushanku base as Kankū Dai. It is widely accepted that Itosu Ankō created the Sho version to complement the existing Dai form, following the Matsumura lineage. Funakoshi brought both forms to mainland Japan and standardised the names. As with other paired Sho kata in Shotokan, the Sho version is not necessarily lesser in difficulty, but provides a complementary tactical and technical perspective.
Lineage Kūsankū (Chinese Official) → Itosu Ankō (Shuri-te) → Gichin Funakoshi (Shōtōkan)
