About This Kata
| Name | Gankaku Sho [岩鶴小] |
| Translation | Crane on a Rock – Lesser |

| History | Gankaku Sho is a rare and rarely practised kata not universally found across Shotokan associations. It is believed to be a modern creation or adaptation, possibly influenced by or structured to pair with the Bassai Sho, Kankū Sho, and other ‘Sho’ kata in Shotokan. It is attributed to Hirokazu Kanazawa and may be more commonly found in Shitō-ryū or blended styles that preserve both Dai (greater) and Sho (lesser) versions of core kata. Its presence is not universal in Shotokan. |
