| History | Gekisai Dai Ni was created by Chōjun Miyagi in 1940 alongside Gekisai Dai Ichi as part of his effort to make Gōjū-ryū more accessible for physical education in Okinawan schools. The name means ‘Attack and Destroy Number Two’. It is slightly more complex than Dai Ichi, introducing additional techniques while retaining the approachable structure designed for beginners. It is also practised in Kyokushin, where Masutatsu Ōyama incorporated it with some modifications. A version called Shinsei, almost identical to Gekisai Dai Ni, was created by Kenwa Mabuni for Shitō-ryū. |
