| History | Fukyūgata was explicitly created for the purpose of spreading and popularising karate practice, developed by the Okinawan Karate Federation around 1940–1941. Fukyūgata Ichi was created by Nagamine Shōshin of Matsubayashi-ryū, while Fukyūgata Ni was developed by Chōjun Miyagi of Gōjū-ryū. Both forms were designed as standardised introductory kata suitable for physical education in Okinawan schools. |
