| History | Tsuki no Kata translates as ‘Punching Kata’ and metaphorically as ‘Kata of Fortune’. Note that one form of writing ‘tsuki’ is 月 meaning ‘moon’, so the kata is sometimes referred to as ‘Form of the Moon’. The lineage flows from Chinese White Crane through Tada Seigo to Gōjū-ryū, then to Kyokushin via Tadashi Nakamura, one of Masutatsu Ōyama’s senior students who had extensive Gōjū-ryū background. Ōyama further developed it as a crucial training tool for his full-contact style. |
